Janis Lynn Joplin (Port Arthur, 19 of January of 1943 - Los Angeles, 4 of October of 1970) was a singer and United States composer. The became known in the end of years 60 as vocalista of the band Big Brother and Company Holding, and later as alone artist.

Janis was born in the city of Port Arthur, Texas, in the United States. It grew hearing musicians of blues, such as Bessie Smith and Big Mama Thornton and singing in the local choir. Joplin concluded the secondary course in the Jefferson High School in Port Arthur in the year of 1960, and was for the University of the Texas, in the city of Austin, where it started to sing blues and folk with friends.

Cultivating an rebellious attitude, Joplin if dressed as the poets of the generation beat, was changed of the Texas for San Francisco in 1963, it liveed in North Beach, and it worked as singer folk. The prominence of the band was in the Festival Pop de Monterey, with a version of music “Ball and Chain” and the vocal marcantes of Janis. Its album of 1968 Cheap Thrills made the name of Janis.

When leaving the band Big Brother, Janis formed a called group Kozmic Blues Band, folloied that it in I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! (1969). The group if separated, and Joplin formed then the Full Tilt Boogie Band. The result was the Pearl album (1971), launched its death after, and that it had as and Bobby McGee” (of Kris Kristofferson) has detached musics “Me, and “Mercedes-Benz”, written for the poet beatnik Michael McClure.

Janis Joplin was in Brazil in February of 1970, in the attempt of if exempting of the vice of the heroine. During its sojourn, it made topless in Copacabana, it drank very, it sang in a brothel, it was banishes from the Hotel Copacabana Palace for swimming naked in the swimming pool and she was almost imprisoned, for its attitudes in the beach, considered “outside of the normal one”.

Janis Joplin died of overdose of heroine in 4 of October of 1970, in Los Angeles, California, with only 27 years. It was cremada in the memorial cemetary-park of Westwood Village, in Westwood, California, and in a ceremony, its leached ashes had been spread by the Pacific Ocean.

The Pearl album was launched 6 months after its death. The film The Rose, with Bette Midler in the paper of Janis Joplin, was based on its life.

It today is remembered by its strong and marcante, sufficiently distant voice of the more common influences folk at its time, and also for the subjects of pain and loss that she chose for its musics.
